Buonanotte:  A Renaissance-Style Bedroom in the New Contemporary Style

Spanning the early nineteenth through the twentieth century, the antique furnishings were selected for their simplicity and clear sense of style. The 1940’s Art Deco pieces by French Furniture Artisan Jules Leleu include the Rosewood and Bronze Ormolu Desk and bombé Commode with mother-of-pearl inlay. Their sensual lines contrast the severity of the Russian Neoclassical oval table at the foot of the bed and the Louis XVI-style bedside tables. The Swedish 1830 parcel gilt, concave-sided mirrors above trace the shape of the bottom of the commode and bring unexpected whimsy to the elevation, which is flanked by the more serious 19th century French Victorian Sconces. Antique lighting pieces include the 1918 Art Deco Single sconce by the entrance and the Simonet Frères French Art Deco Chandelier from the 1930’s which hangs in the bed chamber.
