Posted on Wednesday, November 02, 2011.

Interior designer Bunny Williams has been named Chairperson of the 40th annual Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club Decorator Show House, which opens in April 2012. At the same time, Charles Pavarini has been named Chairman of the Design Committee, and will be responsible for leading the design committee in raising awareness, marketing and fundraising for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. He replaces Dick Ridge and Roderick Denault, who have both dedicated many years in service to the design committee and the show house.

Williams has been a long-standing supporter of the Boys & Girls Club and the Show House and has created some of the Show House’s most memorable rooms over the years. Pavarini has also created a number of inspiring rooms for past show houses and has led various fundraising programs for Kips Bay, including the annual Designer Cruise and other important initiatives.

“We are thrilled to have such respected and supportive leaders such as Bunny Williams and Charles Pavarini leading the important 40th year of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House and our various design industry related events,” said Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club executive director Dan Quintero. “We appreciate and honor the contributions of Pat Carey, Dick Ridge and Roderick Denault and the service they have provided. We look forward to their continued support of our various projects.”

The Kips Bay Decorator Show House has been a showcase for great American and international interior design. Through sponsorship, gala and ticket sales to over 20,000 visitors, the house typically raises more than $1 million annually to support the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club’s essential after-school and enrichment programs for more than 12,000 young people at 10 locations in the Bronx.

{DESIGNERS} Creative Minds in Interiors, Landscapes, and Furnishings

Charles Pavarini III Design Associates, Inc.: Family Legacy includes design accolades, couture style, and prestigious projects
"Charles Pavarini III Design Associates, Inc. is a full-service interior-design firm that takes an architectural approach to every project.  Given the Pavarini family history, that's not surprising.  The New York-based firm, which was established in 1981, is a testament to the geneological legacy carried by founder Charles Pavarini III.  His father, Charles Pavarini Jr., operated a successful New York construction firm that his grandfather, Charles Pavarini Sr., founded in the early 1950's...for Pavarini, it's first and foremost about the architecture of interior spaces and then the style that follows--a "Euro-focused foward thinking" approach that emphasizes new technologies, especially lighting. "Most technology we use is in audio-visual, lighting design, and lighting control systems" [Charles] says. "Lighting is not only used to illuminate space, but it's also a tool to make a space come alive. . . While the firm's work is distinctive, Pavarini says they have become so well-versed in design that they're comfortable with any style or vernacular.  This shows in the firm's work, which ranges from English homes in CT and French-style mansions outside the city to luxury lodges in Vail, CO, and ultra-modern New York City apartments."

SHOWHOUSE SPOTLIGHT: LOOK UP TO SPECTACULAR CEILINGS

"The Lounge" CPDA designed for Kips Bay 2009 is recognized for its timeless glamour and spotlighted for its innovative custom hand-cast plaster ceiling and colorful LED lighting. "The molding hangs at the lowest point then graduates in height to the lattice pattern." -CPIII   Not only did Charles create sculpture on the ceiling, he highlighted it with a live light show.  Custom piercing in the cove of the crown molding allows poinpoints of colorful LED light to accent the distinctive architecture. . . Furniture is successfully mismatched, establishing various points of interest in the "social lounge."  Upholstered pieces with contemporary lines and fabrics are equally as glamorous as case goods with metallic finishes, including a mirrored drum side table and a tree-branch table with a glass top."

IIDA P.R.I.D.E. Awards

Once again, Pavarini Design makes a 'clean sweep' at the IIDA P.R.I.D.E. Awards.  Winning a Design Excellence Award for 'The Lounge' we created for Kips Bay 2009 as well as an Award of Merit for 'The Pavarini Thanksgiving' we created for Holiday House 2008 CPDA has yet again taken awards for all submissions to the competition.  Both rooms captured the depth of the Pavarini Vision and demonstrated our competence in both purely traditional residential settings and contemporary boutique hotel settings.  The juxtaposition of these two awards represents our strength in two extremely disparate design challenges and our ability to handle them with mastery and grace.

SPRING AWAKENING: A FUNDRAISER PRODUCED BY CPIII FOR STONC

SPEARHEADED BY CHARLES PAVARINI III, Trustees and Patrons of the Summer Theatre of New Canaan Create a Table-Top Show at Le Beau Chateau, New Canaan, CT

May 12-16 Located in an Historic Mansion on a 52-acre estate in Fairfield County Trustees and Supporters have united to create the 1st Annual Designer Table-Top show to benefit The Summer Theatre of New Canaan (STONC). Spring Awakening featured table-top designs by notable Interior Designers inspired by Broadway shows. The show runs Thursday though Sunday May 13-16th, with a press preview on Wednesday May 12 from 3-6:00pm and an Opening Night Gala from 6:30-9:30pm. Corporate sponsors are welcome to host additional events Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.

Event Chairman, Charles Pavarini III, set the example with a magnificent table-scape designed to represent A Little Night Music.  His powerful setting complete with floating architectural columns and arches typified that exuberant feast in the country that was such an iconic part of the musical featuring Angela Lansbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones.  Heavily decorated with wisteria, statue and only the finest from Bernardaud and Michael C. Fina, the vignette was truly captivating.

An actor and performer himself, Charles spearheaded this venue to merge the Theatrical Arts with Interior Design to create an entertaining and enjoyable community event for the patrons of the arts in Fairfield County. Designs inspired by shows such as A Secret Garden, Jeckyll and Hyde, Peter Pan, Phantom of the Opera and Once Upon a Mattress exuberantly portrayed the sentiment of these Broadway shows through the eyes of designers.

As a trustee and avid supporter of STONC, Charles envisioned this event to merge his two passions, the Theatre and Interior Design, into one entertaining and educational event that will benefit a charity which is dedicated to providing a venue for emerging talent. "As a performer myself, I can appreciate the need in our society for young talent to have the opportunity to learn and grow. STONC, with its superior leadership by Artistic Director Melody Meitrott Libonati, has become a very exciting professional summer theater group in Fairfield County, winning accolades from critics, audiences and supporters. Their shows considered exceptional, fresh and imaginative are often compared to Broadway and maintain an extremely high caliber of regional and national talent to provide a unique summer entertainment experience for the people of Fairfield County. What better an idea to welcome the public into a marvelous vintage Chateau, never before seen by the public, to be mesmerized by an inspired group of Designers. I want to show this town how important the different creative arts are to each other within the community, and how they all share a similar audience". -Charles Pavarini III

Corporate Sponsor Christie's Great Estates, and particularly Barbara Cleary, are to be commended for their great teamwork in providing this treasured home for the event. Their support of this most important charity has set a great example in the community and shown how a company with such phenomenal exposure and attributes can bring light to the community and its talent within.

About The Summer Theatre of New Canaan
The Summer Theatre of New Canaan (STONC) enriches local communities with a professionally produced theatre experience, providing exciting performances for multigenerational audiences as well as learning opportunities for many of the region's talented performers and technicians who work along side professional performers and production staff. Founded by Melody and Edward Libonati, professional actor and producer respectively, the company offers a strong educational experience for all actors and a highly entertaining Theatrical ensemble for all patrons. Through the generosity of hundreds of supporters, the Summer Theatre of New Canaan is able to create extraordinary productions and programs that challenge, provide educational programs for young people throughout the extended communities, and hold-down ticket prices at a level accessible to all theatergoers.

J. Randall Tarasuk, CPDA V.P. created is own tabletop for Spring Awakening in his first-ever solo exhibition representing Pavarini Design. In his own interpretation of the famed musical Jeckyll & Hyde, Randall had Dr. Jeckyll meet Mr. Hyde for dinner, and designed the entire vignette in contrast to show the emerging mental dichotomy in the single mind and how it visually translated into this fascinating laboratory and all the accoutrements right in the home of Dr. Jeckyll. Even the table alluded to this dichotomy, with sharply contrasting tableware by Bernardaud and Michael C. Fina.

"Each year, top design talents remake a stylish mansion somewhere on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, attracting a substantial public and raising about $1 million for the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club. The large lounge in the 2009 house, a 20,000 sf limestone mansion at 22 E. 71st St., provided ample room for Charles Pavarini III Design Associates to express the basic human connection to the earth and the precious materials within it in a way that was relaxing to the spirit and stimulating to the mind. These are the essentials of "The New Luxury" as Charles Pavarini III sees it."

LIVING IN THE PAST TODAY: Restoring Historic ResidencesTHE APTHORP

"Vehicles enter through a central courtyard containing two large fountains and post lanterns, explained Charles Pavarini III, IIDA, DLF, Allied ASID member, of New York-based Charles Pavarini III Design Associates Inc.  Divided into quarters, residents use four small entrance lobbies with marble floors and elaborate plaster ceilings ornamented with gold leaf.  These ground floor lobbies are echoed with fewer details on each floor.

Every Apartment has a different design style, done to suit the original tenants' preferences.  To restore and retrofit tenants' preferences.  To restore and retrofit kitchen and bathrooms to accommodate these differences,  Pavarini Designed 9 different bathroom schemes, three each for the master bath, secondary bath, and powder rooms, and three different kitchens.  "Our major challenge was the plumbing and ventilation because we had no original plans, resulting in spending an enormous amount of time on field study, " he said. . . Pavarini wants the Apthorp to be as true to the original as possible.  "It's a compelling building architecturally.  What the Astors built is an edifice, but more so, a New York lifestyle.  And that is something that is intangible.  We can't repair that.  We can't express that in materials.  It's the way the apartments feel, the way you move through them, what you do in them."
